Adulting is the phase where it gets hard to associate yourself with a kid or a grown-up. You are neither a teen or an adult, but a wild mix of an innocent teenagers’ heart and worldly responsibilities of an adult. A stage where you have transitioned from childhood and now you are on a journey of transitioning towards adulthood. A phase full of possibilities, Adventure, and self-learning!
Adulthood is the defining decade of your life, Where what you do with your life matters. It sets a basic foundation for your life in the 30s and beyond. We are all hustling towards our dream in the mornings and partying hard at night! This is surely the fun aspect of adulting. Isn’t it?
I have listed a few signs of adulting and I want you to give yourself a pat in the back even if you resonate with one of these.
1. You manage your finances.
As a young adult, Self-learning about finances is often overlooked as “boring” or “only for grownups” !!But, managing money is the basic fundamental one needs to seriously take into account to lead a pleasant future. From creating budgets and sticking to it, saving money for the future to paying bills on time are all vital steps in an adulting world.
If you do this already, You just ticked off the first step to adulting! Congratulations buddy!!
2. You stop depending on others for silly tasks.
As kids, we are bound to depend fully on parents and as we hit teenage, We expect our friends to lend us a helping hand. This changes the moment when you start realizing that you can do a few things on your own or at least you will figure it out along the way. While it is totally okay to ask for help when you are in urgent need, you should also mind not being overly dependent on someone. Self-reliance is the key to adulthood.
3. You cook a decent meal without anyone’s help.
Irrespective of your gender, You should know the basics of cooking. Guess what!! Saying “oops! I don’t know how to cook!” is not cool at all, given that you are 20-something. This is a basic life-skill everyone should learn.Start simple, You don’t have to be a Michelin star chef to cook a simple meal, There are tonnes of easy and quick recipes available on Pinterest and all over the internet. Trust me, your tummy and bank account will thank you for it
4. Solo travel/living alone at least once.
Solo-travelling will have a remarkable impact on your life. You will grow as a human, You will learn to manage things on your own, You will learn to enjoy your own company and before everything, you will learn to be fiercely independent. I bet you, you will cherish this experience for the rest of your life. So, traveling solo/living should definitely be part of your adulting life or the least should be a part of your bucket list.
5. You say NO to another glass of alcohol without the FOMO.
We treat alcohol as the means through which we connect and socialize with people. Shots!! Fun!! party!! I get it! Its a lot of fun. There is nothing wrong with indulging when you genuinely want to party. Although, I’m talking about the times when you just don’t feel like it, yet you force yourself for the sole reason of FOMO. There comes a time in your adulthood where getting high isn’t “fun” to you considering the unwanted hangover the next morning!. So, if you comfortably refuse another glass of drink without shame of what others might think of you or Fear of missing out, Congrats! You are a part of the adulting club!
6. You call your mom every day.
Let’s admit it. At one or another point in our life, we have muted or ignored or gotten irritated by our mother’s phone calls. But, as you get older, not only you realize the importance of mother in your life, you will also be seen talking to her about recipes, problems in your work life. Through adulthood, you seem to appreciate your mom more than ever and you will need her more than ever. If you haven’t gotten to this point, trust me you will.
