The Principles/laws written by the greatest Authors, inventors, Economists in the past have proven to be very beneficial if applied in our day to day lives. I have a habit of reading books, My favorite genre being self-help books, I often stumble upon miraculous theories that make a lot of difference in the way of living. If applied in everyday life, These can prove to be life-changing principles!
We can be productive and wise in whatever we need to accomplish.
Here’s a list of 3- Life-changing principles/laws to live by
1.80/20 Principle/ Pareto’s law.
80/20 principle, also known as Pareto’s law, is named after its inventor Vilfredo Pareto.
This law is the observation that all things are not distributed equally.
According to the law, 80% of the results come from only 20% of tasks.
To better explain it, Let’s look at some of the examples.
80% of a Businessman’s profit comes from a minor 20% of the work he puts in, The rest effort is not yielding him any results.
80% of Italy’s wealth was controlled by 20% of people.
80% of the fruit yield came from the healthiest 20% of plants.
This can be depicted as:
80% of the output results from 20% of inputs.
80% of results come from 20% of time and effort.
80% of profits come from 20% of products and customers.
How to apply this principle in your life?
Here are two simple questions to ask yourself.
1. Which 20% of sources are causing 80% of my miseries and stress?
2. Which 20% of sources are resulting in 80% of my happiness and yielding me desired outcomes?
I think these two questions are enough to figure out crucial 20 % efforts yielding you most exceptional results. The rest attempts are not working in your favor and should simply be eliminated.
Pareto’s law also extensively teaches us how to boost productivity with minimum time and effort. I see people appear busy all the time, Yet they accomplish little at the end of the day. This predominantly happens because they end up working more on tasks that yield less merit, and procrastinate on those one or two tasks that yield them high worth.
2. Parkinson’s law.
This is one of my best-liked principles. This will unquestionably create a noticeable impact if applied in our daily lives. According to Parkinson’s law, “Work swells accordingly to the time assigned for its completion”.
Let’s say you have an assignment to complete in 24 hours, You will have no choice but to start working on it immediately. If the time allotted for the same assignment is one week, Then the work would evidently expand and take 7 days to get concluded.
Due to the 24- hour slot pressure, Your focus on the work would be higher than a 7-day slot.
Hence, Shorter the deadline, the higher the quality of work, and greater focus and effective use of time.
If applied, Parkinson’s law would prove to be advantageous in time management and boosting overall productivity as well as prove to be one of the many life-changing principles
This law proposes that we become like the average of 5 people we spend our time with. You surely must have heard about this theory. Your life will be an average of 5 people who influence you the most. This is why it’s vital to choose people cautiously. Bad company can often lead to you ruining your life. If you have a specific goal, Find people who have already achieved it, And be with them, Hangout with people who inspire you, who bring out the best in you.
Try to avoid people who drain your energy, Who do not believe in your dream and aspirations, Who criticize you for being yourself, and just prevent them for your greater good.
There is also one trick I use extensively that can help analyze any person.
Notice how you feel before and after meeting a person. If you were positive before and feel mentally drained after striking a conversation with them, stay away!!!!
Similarly, if you were positive before and are more positively charged after talking to them, That’s a sign of the right company. You are good to go!!
So, the bottom line is, Chose people wisely, It makes a huge difference.
